Shrota · the listener
An AI listener for people who need someone to talk to
Shrota (श्रोता) means “the listener.” It is an emotional-support app for people who feel they have no one safe to talk to, built with India in mind. A person can write or speak. The app can follow mood, and a safety check watches for a crisis. Shrota is not a clinician and it is not an emergency service.

What the app is for
Some people do not have a person they can say the hard thing to. Shrota is built for that gap: a private conversation, by text or by voice, rather than a public feed.
Sign-in uses a phone number through Firebase. The conversation itself is a chat. Voice, mood, and crisis support are part of the same app.
What happens if the conversation is unsafe
A safety check looks for high-risk messages. The person is shown resources and helplines. The event can be escalated to a trained person, and it is logged so it can be audited. That path exists so a crisis is not left inside an ordinary chat.
Shrota does not replace a doctor, a counsellor you already trust, or local emergency services. If someone is in immediate danger, the right call is the emergency number where they are.
Privacy
Authentication goes through Firebase. Conversation data is not shared without explicit consent. The point of a listener is that the conversation stays with the person who started it.
Questions
- Is Shrota a therapist?
- No. Shrota is an emotional-support app, a listener. It is not a clinician and it does not provide emergency care.
- Who is Shrota for?
- People who need somewhere safe to talk, especially in India. The app is in active build by ZigCode Labs.
- Can I speak instead of type?
- Yes. Voice sits next to the chat, along with mood and crisis support.
- What if a message sounds like a crisis?
- The safety check notifies the person with resources and helplines, can escalate to a trained person, and logs the event. It is not a substitute for emergency services.
